When God had the Israelites destroy the city of Jericho He wanted to bless them for their efforts. However, the blessing would come after they obeyed His commands about Jericho. One person by the name of Achan could not wait for God's blessing and ended up paying for it with his life. What may seem strange to us makes perfect sense to God if we are willing to follow His leading 100%.
